Her book has been recognized by former President Barack Obama and former Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner. In 2012 she received a National African American History Month proclamation from President Barack Obama. Howard’s accolade has not gone unrecognized. She was rewarded Carmen Lenor Hanks-Howard Day in Houston Texas on December 17, 2022, by Mayor Sylvester Turner.
